The Line 6 POD HD500 Amp Modeler and Multi Effect pedal represents a giant leap forward for amp modeling and effects processing. With an upgraded processor, the POD HD500 is able to emulate every stage of the valve amp creating the most detailed reproduction of valve amp tone imaginable.

The Line 6 POD HD500 is the only multi-effect pedal to boast 16 state-of-the-art Line 6 HD amp models, 100+ modern and vintage-styled M-class effects (35+ Distortions, 35+ Delays, 45+ Other and up to 8 simultaneously), and a super-comprehensive digital and analog I/O. The HD amp models defy the accepted standard. They feel, behave, and interact with previously unachievable realism.

The new modeling technology uses 10-times more amplifier information than before, including single-ended class A tube stages, class AB push/pull interactions, power supply behavior, and more. The result is unprecedented, warmth, feel, sustain, and articulation for you to fall in love with.

In addition to these classic sounds themselves, POD HD500 functions as a fully featured looping, pitch shifting, and harmonizing machine. Scale from an instantly routable signal chain up to the flexibility of a MIDI switching system and beyond, (even compiling several rigs within the POD HD500’s memory, storing a full rig per “slot” with total flexibility and direct access).

Smart FX make it a snap to quickly dial in your tone, and the free, easy to use editor/librarian software supports your deepest, darkest tonal explorations.

The Dawn of Amp Modeling

Over a decade ago, Line 6 helped pioneer a new technology called amp modeling that was designed to give musicians access to a range of celebrated tones for performing and recording. Since then, amp modeling has become the new standard for tone, flexibility, and sheer convenience in all corners of the music industry.

Products like POD® and Amp Farm® became studio fixtures, and later Flextone™ and Vetta™ amplifiers started popping up on stages. As musicians grew attached to the speed with which they could dial in their tone, or any other tone they wanted, amp modeling grew in popularity.

HD Modelling - TubesWe kept refining our modeling technology as we continued building modeling products, pushing the limits of the modeling tools that we work in. But one day we realized we had taken our existing modeling technology as far as it could go, and the decision was made to tear it all down and start again. The HD amp modeling seed was planted, and it grew into largest Line 6 research project in years.

Back to the Drawing Board

Quite literally, we went back to the drawing board for over 3 years to develop a brand-new suite of tools that would capture, analyze and translate a tremendous amount of amplifier data. Successful test runs showed that our efforts weren't in vain, so we kept pushing forward.

During that time, a dedicated team of amp hunters scoured the globe to amass a dream-worthy collection of amplifiers for us to model. The hunt led them from the dusty basements of world renowned boutique guitar shops to the deepest, darkest corners of the Internet. But it wasn't just about finding the right kind of amplifiers, it was about finding the single best specimens. (Two of the same amp, made the same year, in the same factory, can sound very different.)

HD Modelling - WorkersAs the amplifiers arrived one by one from around the globe they, and the rest of our vintage amps, were restored back to peak condition with the help of LA's top tube amp experts. Tubes and caps were tested and replaced. Joints were resoldered. Tube sockets, pins, pots, jacks and chassis were cleaned. Biases were checked. No expense was spared.

HD modeling technology had received its finishing touches so modeling the new amps began. The results were immediately apparent. HD amp models contain up to 10 times more amplifier DNA than our previous modeling. Things like single-ended class A tube stages, class AB push/pull interactions, tone stack, and even power supply behavior were modeled. Every HD model offers dizzying levels of detail, and paints a complete portrait of its modeled brother.

At the end of the day, HD amp models provide the detailed, articulate tones you need to get lost in the simple, deep pleasure of making music. Plug into HD modeling and see for yourself. The proof is in the playing.
